The Eagle. A poem by the Georgian poet Vaja Pshavela

This is my first attempt to post
one of my favourite Georgian poems.
I hope you will like it.

არწივი ვნახე დაჭრილი,	I saw a wounded eagle Я увидел раненного орла
ყვავ ყორნებს ეომებოდა,	Fighting with crows and ravens Дрался он с воронами
ეწადა ბეჩავს ადგომა,	He, poor victim, was trying to get up Пытался он израненный  встать
მაგრამ ვეღარა დგებოდა,	But he couldn't get back up any more Но он не мог встать больше

ცუდ დროს ჩაგიგდავთ ხელადა,	You put me in your hands at a bad time, В плохое время в руки  я вам попался
თორო ვნახავდი თქვენს ბუმბულს	Otherwise I would see your feathers А то я бы увидел ваши перья
გაშლილს, გაფანტულს ველადა!	Scattered all over the fields! Рассеянные по полям!

არწივი ვნახე დაჭრილი,	artsivi vnakhe dachrili,
ყვავ ყორნებს ეომებოდა,	khvav khornebs eomeboda
ეწადა ბეჩავს ადგომა,	etsada bechav-s adgoma,
მაგრამ ვეღარა დგებოდა,	magram veghara dgeboda,
ცალს მხარს მიწაზე მიითრევს,	Cals mkhars mitsaze miitrevs
გულისპირს სისხლი სცხებოდა.	Gulispirs siskhli sckhdeboda
ვაჰ, დედას თქვენსა, ყოვებო,	Vah, dedas tqvensa, khovebo
ცუდ დროს ჩაგიგდავთ ხელადა,	Cud dros chagigdavt khelada
თორო ვნახავდი თქვენს ბუმბულს	Toro vnakhavdi tqvens bumbuls

                                                        The meaning of the poem

In this poem the main point is fearlessness in the face of danger. This eagle wasn’t scared of anything. You will ask why the poet selected the eagle for a hero and crows as cowards. It is because the eagle is a symbol of strength and bravery, but crows are cowards and very evil.  The eagle is dying with very intense and severe pain, but he doesn’t give up. This is the characterization of a brave person. Even if you are alone and surrounded by bullies, you can find the strength to stand up to them and never back down.
